Eye Candy – Bougainvillea
The eye candy this time is some pretty pink bougainvillea or known as ‘bunga kertas’ in Malay.
Bougainvillea are rapid growing and flower all year in warm climates, especially when pinched or pruned. They grow best in moist fertile soil. Bloom cycles are typically four to six weeks.
Bougainvillea grow best in very bright full sun and with frequent fertilization, but the plant requires little water to flower. My late grandmothers loved this flower so much that she planted each of every color!
The ‘bunga kertas’ in below picture was planted on the cross over bridge where the two muddy rivers met in the city of Kuala Lumpur. You can barely see the two rivers because I wanted to focus on the pretty bougainvillea. I’ll show you the rivers in another eye candy ![]()
