I always admired the Tugu Negara (National Monument) whenever I saw it aired on the television. The picture of some huge tall bronze figures of soldiers standing looks very charming. On Saturday — We went to visit my in-laws in Keramat, Kuala Lumpur. We were thinking of taking the bike but the day was so cloudy, and I could smell the rain was coming. We love to explore Kuala Lumpur on a bike because it is easier to hop from one place to another. Furthermore, the bike is very good at beating traffic jams in the city! Not wanting to take the risk of getting my new Olympus E500 wet, we decided to take the Chevy.
The Kris Monument or Tugu Keris is a huge monument in the shape of a kris in Klang, Selangor. It is located along Federal Highway route 2 near Taman Kris and Sungai Rasau toll plaza. The Kris Monument construction was ordered by the late Sultan of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of his reign on 22 September 1985. This monument was specially designed to depict the Keris Semenanjung (the Malay crooked dagger) that symbolises power, strength and unity. How to get to the Kris Monument? Just drive along the Federal Highway from Shah Alam to Klang, and you will notice a towering silver-coloured Tugu Kris on the left, just before the Bukit Raja Industrial Estate. The kris or keris is a distinctive, asymmetrical dagger indigenous to Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and the southern Philippines. Both a weapon and spiritual object, krisses are often considered to have an essence or presence, with some blades possessing good luck and others possessing bad.

Kota Darul Ehsan is a marble arch symbolizing the border on Malaysian Federal Highway between the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian state of Selangor. Erected on route 2, it is the biggest arch in Malaysia. You are most likely to drive past the arch on your way from Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya, or vice versa. The arch was commissioned by the late Sultan of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah , to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Sultan, government and people of Selangor as a result of giving up KL to the Federal Government on 1st February, 1974. The Arch Attractions Built along one of the busiest roads in the country, the Federal Highway, the arch’s Moorish influence is flanked by cannons on both sides and subtle light effects which bathes the arch in a warm glow at night. The 4 cannons at the base of the arch are over 100 years old and were taken from the fort at Kuala Selangor. At the top of the arch, you can see two Malaysian flags, two Selangor flags and four state crests. It was was constructed at the cost of RM4.4 million and was officially opened by the [...]
