Let’s visit Zoo Negara, the Malaysian national zoo in Kuala Lumpur! I have been to Zoo Negara once as a child so many years ago. And, I went there again (with hubby and Izzah) a couple of months back. I never thought visiting a zoo could be so fun, but it was really fun!! Just packed enough food and drinks (or you can buy at various cafes in the zoo) because you’re gonna be very thirsty and hungry. Before you go there, let me walk you through what will you see and experience in Zoo Negara Kuala Lumpur. There are two entrances at Zoo Negara Kuala Lumpur, Entrance A and Entrance B. Entrance A is the first entrance that you will see upon entering Zoo Negara compound. There are ample parkings but if the parking is full, you can proceed to Entrance B’s carpark which is a further up the road. This Zoo Negara ABCs for Everyone will walk you through the Zoo Negara’s excitements from Entrance A. A = A ride to every corner! If you think you don’t have much energy walking the huge 120 acres Zoo Negara, you can get a mini tram ride just in front [...]

Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive in Kuala Lumpur. But, you should be prepared to unleash your bargain power. Whenever possible, try to get the driver to use the meter, although this may be difficult especially during peak hours as most cabbies consider the official rates too low. KL Survival Tips The following KL survival tips should be able to help you get around Kuala Lumpur by taxis. If you have to bargain, aim for RM5 for short trips, RM10 – RM15 if going across the inner city. Standard red & white colored taxis charge RM2 for the first 2 km and RM0.10sen for every 200 metres, and RM2.00 for the first two minutes and RM0.10sen for every 45 seconds. If there are extra passengers (more than 2), then there will be an extra charge of RM0.20sen. Luggage stored in the trunk will be charged an additional RM1.00, and RM1.00 will be charged for phone booking. Between midnight and 6am you’ll be charged an extra 50% of the total fare. The bright yellow premium taxis have a RM4 flagfall and also charge a bit more by kilometer. Giving tips are not encouraged but 10% can be given at your discretion. Taxis [...]

Kuala Lumpur has a network of mass transit trains that snake through the city and out to the suburbs. I believe, it’ll be worth your time to become familiar with the train routes because traffic jams can sometimes become so unbearable. Once you’re familiar with the train routes, you’ll find it’s not really that complicated. I used to feel the same way but I overcame the hassle by planning my journey well. Just study the rail routes map and take note of the nearest station to the place you’re going. You’ll be in good shape! Kuala Lumpur Survival Tips The following KL survival tips should be able to help you get around Kuala Lumpur by trains. Kuala Lumpur’s public transport system consists of 3 LRT (Light Rail Transit) lines operated by RapidKL, the semicircular KL Monorail looping through the Golden Triangle and the KTM Komuter for trips to the outer northern, southern & western suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. Kelana Jaya LRT was formerly known as “PUTRA”, while the Sri Petaling and Ampang LRTs were formerly known as “STAR”. Kelana Jaya LRT runs the southeast route. Starting from Gombak in north-east KL, it passes the KL Sentral station and Universiti Malaya [...]

Another alternative to get around Kuala Lumpur is by buses. Buses in Kuala Lumpur are quite comfortable, modern and air-conditioned. The service is comprehensive and it’s a quick and inexpensive way to get around. Again… the buses may not be as efficient as you want it to be. But, it’s reliable enough to get you around KL. Hop-On Hop-Off! Now you can enjoy Kuala Lumpur city in a luxury double decker that takes you around many interesting places at reasonable prices. The Kuala Lumpur Hop-On Hop-Off Bus is great as it takes you through 22 stops at only MYR38 (approximately USD10) and the ticket is valid for 24 hours upon purchase. That’s an awesome value for money! Local buses (not to be confused with Rapid KL’s Local Shuttle) or stage buses are run by the integrated network operator Rapid KL as well as privately owned Metrobus, Triton, Len Seng, Selangor Ombnibus and SJ Bus. The largest operator, Rapid KL, operates 179 bus routes along with the Kelana Jaya Line, Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line. Rapid KL’s Local Shuttle plys 15 city-routes that cover most major areas in the Kuala Lumpur city centre. The fare for City Shuttles is RM2 [...]
