Bandar Sunway was developed by Sunway Group, also known as Sunway Holdings Incorporated Berhad. This popular area was created in 1986 with the objective of creating a residential area that caters both the entertainment and commercial needs with a twist.
Over the years, this KL suburb has matured into a community well-provided with amenities and become one of the hottest & congested spot in the Klang Valley. It has also become known as a higher education hub, with two large colleges in the area, namely Monash University, and Sunway University College.
Bandar Sunway is well-connected to the cities of Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam and the townships of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Klang via a network of highways, namely the Federal Highway, the Shah Alam Expressway, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), the North-South Expressway Central Link and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway. It is also served by an urban-suburb rail link, the KTM Komuter.
If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, make sure you explore the popularSunway Lagoon Theme Park. Sunway Lagoon Theme Park was previously an old quarry and tin mine but now has been converted into a different kind of entertainments hub.
Just next to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is the most popular Bandar Sunway landmark — the Egyptian-inspired architecture of the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre. You can see a small scale pyramid sits in the centre of this shopping mall and the big lion that guards the main entrance.
Bandar Sunway Food
There are plenty of restaurants around Bandar Sunway where you can satisfy your taste buds. How about trying different type of laksa? Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup from Peranakan culture, which is a merger of Chinese and Malay elements found in Malaysia and Singapore.
You can go to Laksa Shack in Sunway Pyramid and try Nyonya Laksa, Laksam, Johor Laksa, Asam Laksa, Sarawak Laksa, Curry Laksa, Tom Yam Laksa, Bali Laksa and so much more. If you don’t like the spicy and sourly taste of Laksa, you can also try Lontong, Roti Jala, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Beriyani and Nasi Uduk.
You can have an all-day fund at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, or you can ice skating at the country’s very first ice skating ring at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre.
Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre is indeed the most visited spot. It was opened in July 1997 as Malaysia’s first themed shopping and entertainment mall. You will definitely notice the mall’s Egyptian-inspired Pyramid with a lion “standing guard” at the entrance. The rest of the building is embellished in the monumental style, complete with hieroglyphics decorating facades, along with numerous Pharonic statuaries.
In addition to the splendour of its Egyptian like décor, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre also houses many international and local retail and food outlets.
