Bandar Utama is a township located within the Damansara subdivision of the Petaling district in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is primarily a residential suburb, but is also home to the 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
In 1991, prior to the development of this well planned residential area, along with its neighbouring areas was a wide expanse of palm oil estates. 13 years later, an estimated 59 000 people now reside in this vibrant township. Bandar Utama comprises of 12 sections spanning from BU1 to BU12. It is serviced by 2 expressways, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP). Access to these 2 expressways provides easy access to the surrounding areas. Travel time to its neighbouring areas on a clear day would only be a mere 5 minutes.
This township is surrounded by many other highly populated residential areas such as Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Damansara Utama, Damansara Jaya and SS2 but what sets it apart from all the rest is the presence of the 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
Apart from the hustle and bustle of shopping malls, you can unwind at Bandar Utama Central Park which is a calm and soothing place, belying its location. Central Park is located just opposite the 1 Utama Shopping Complex. There are a community centre that houses a community hall, a football field, badminton courts and other sports facilities. If you love golfing, you can do so at the nearby Tropicana Golf and Country Club.
You can find almost any food that you like at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. There are numerous restaurants that you can choose such as A&W, Burger King, KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s, Starbucks, Nando’s and Shakey’s Pizza.

1 Utama Shopping Centre is perhaps the most popular shopping malls in Klang Valley. It is visited by 60,000 to 90,000 visitors every weekday, and as many as 120,000 on weekends. This shopping centre is very huge especially after the opening of it’s New Wing in December 2003. A day may not enough to cover all the outlets, even if you’re just window-shopping!
You can find everything that you need here. There are Jaya Jusco and Giant supermarkets as well as a number of well-known outlets such MPH, DKNY, Toys ‘R’ Us, Laura Ashley and many more. You are bound to get hungry easily after browsing through the stores and entertainment outlets, but luckily finding food in 1 Utama is extremely easy. There are numerous restaurants that you can choose such as A&W, Burger King, KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s, Starbucks, Nando’s and Shakey’s Pizza.
Centrepoint on the other hand is a smaller and more modest commercial building that provides its Bandar Utama residents with the essentials such as a grocery store, some dining outlets, banks, pharmacies and educational centres. A 24-hour McDonalds drive thru restaurant is located directly next to Centrepoint.
Further north, in the adjacent township of Mutiara Damanasara, Bandar Utama residents have even more shopping alternatives. There are a Tesco outlet, the Ikano Power Centre, the Curve mall and the largest Ikea outlet in Southeast Asia.
Bandar Utama is fully equipped with all the comforts and convenience of modern technology as well. All the commercial buildings are equipped with wireless internet. With so many different activities available, it is no wonder that this vibrant neighbourhood has become a destination for both locals, expatriates and tourists.
